Three hotels were built alongside Universal’s newest park, and they look like a simple good–better–best ladder. They aren’t. One is inside the park and priced accordingly. One is across the road with a 15-minute walk to the gate. And one is next door to that, at almost the same price, with a walk so awkward that reviewers say you should take the bus. Choosing between the Epic Universe hotels comes down to knowing which of those differences matters for your trip, and which you’re paying for without using.
This guide compares Universal Helios Grand Hotel, Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort side by side: price, rooms, how you actually get to the park, Early Park Admission, Express Pass, pools and food, and who each one suits. It also covers when you’d be better off at one of Universal’s original hotels instead. Prices were checked in September 2026 and move sharply with dates, so treat them as the right order of magnitude and check live rates before booking. For the full range of Universal hotels, see our Universal Orlando hotels guide.

Universal Helios Grand Hotel
The Helios Grand is the only hotel inside Epic Universe. Operated by Loews, with about 500 rooms, it sits at the back of Celestial Park, and its guests use a private entrance that takes them straight from the hotel into the park. About half the rooms look over Celestial Park, and the rooftop Bar Helios has 360-degree views across the whole park.
What you’re paying for
- Location. This is the headline, and it’s genuinely valuable. Stepping out of the lobby into the park means you can go back to your room for a midday nap, a swim or a change of clothes in minutes, rather than making a trip across the road.
- A park-view room, if you book one. Watching the fountains and the lit-up hub from your window at night is a real treat.
- No free Express Pass. Universal’s Helios Grand page lists a dedicated Epic Universe entrance, Early Park Admission and transportation, but not the free Universal Express Unlimited that its Royal Pacific, Portofino Bay and Hard Rock Hotel pages list, and Express Unlimited isn’t valid at Epic Universe at all (checked October 2026). Benefits change, so confirm exactly what’s included for your dates when you book.
- Early Park Admission at Epic Universe, which all three hotels share.
The honest caveats
Reviews of the Helios Grand have been mixed on one important point: many visitors feel the theming is superficial and the finishes underwhelming for the price. The location is extraordinary. The rooms and public spaces, some reviewers say, feel more like a very good business hotel than a luxury resort at $700–800 a night. If you’re expecting the lavish immersion of a Disney Deluxe resort or Universal’s Hard Rock Hotel, set your expectations accordingly.
The other caveat is value for the rest of your trip. Early Park Admission is shared with the far cheaper hotels next door. And because the Express benefit is reported to apply at the original two parks, not Epic Universe, it’s only worth something if you’re spending days at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.
Who should stay at Helios Grand
- Families with young children who will genuinely use midday breaks. The short hop back to the room is worth a lot with a toddler.
- Visitors doing two or more Epic Universe days who want the park on their doorstep.
- Groups also spending days at the original parks, if the Express benefit is included for their dates. That can offset a real share of the room cost.
- Special occasions, where a park-view room is part of the point.
Who shouldn’t: anyone doing a single day at Epic Universe, anyone who leaves the park only to sleep, and anyone who expects luxury finishes to match the rate.
Universal Stella Nova Resort
Stella Nova is one of two Prime Value hotels built across the road from Epic Universe, and for most visitors it’s the best-value way to stay close to the park.
Rooms
Stella Nova has 750 rooms, all 315 square feet with two queen beds. The décor is bright and space-themed, with a galaxy mural behind the beds. They’re compact but well designed, comfortable for a family of four who plan to spend their days in the parks. The standout detail is that every room faces the park, though north-facing rooms have a much more distant view than those looking straight across.
Getting to the park
This is Stella Nova’s big advantage over Terra Luna. There’s a walking path to Epic Universe, about 15 minutes from the lobby to the main entrance. That’s a pleasant walk in the morning and a manageable one at night. In the middle of a summer afternoon it’s hot, but it’s still quicker and more flexible than waiting for a bus.
For Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and CityWalk, Stella Nova has free transportation, like the other Universal hotels.
Pool and food
- A pool of around 10,000 square feet with a hot tub and a lounge area, plus a splash pad for children.
- Cosmos Cafe and Market for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with made-to-order meals and a grab-and-go market.
- In-room pizza delivery from 5am to midnight, which is more useful than it sounds after a long park day.
- A pool bar.
Price
Rates have started below about $160 a night on quieter dates, and run roughly $200–300 on summer nights. Stella Nova is usually $10–30 a night more than Terra Luna.
Who should stay at Stella Nova
Almost anyone whose trip centres on Epic Universe and who wants to spend sensibly. You get Early Park Admission, a walk to the park and a decent pool at a fraction of the Helios Grand’s price. The rooms are small, so it’s less suited to families who need more space, and it has no Express Pass.

Universal Terra Luna Resort
Terra Luna is Stella Nova’s sister hotel, built on the same model and at a slightly lower price. On paper, it’s nearly identical. In practice, one thing sets it apart.
Rooms, pool and food
- 750 rooms, all 315 square feet with two queens, the same as Stella Nova. The mural behind the bed shows a single planet rather than a galaxy.
- A pool of around 10,000 square feet with a hot tub, a zero-entry pool that works well for toddlers and anyone with limited mobility, and a slightly smaller deck that reviewers say feels more cohesive.
- Omega Cafe and Market for all meals, plus a grab-and-go market.
- In-room pizza delivery from 5am to midnight, and a pool bar.
The walking problem
This is the key difference. Terra Luna sits further from the park than Stella Nova, and while a walking route exists, reviewers describe it as extremely inconvenient: you leave behind the hotel, cross a major intersection, and walk alongside Stella Nova, with no shade, for 30 minutes or more. In effect, there’s no practical walking route, and Terra Luna guests take the bus.
That matters more than it sounds. With a bus, your day depends on the timetable. Getting to Early Park Admission means catching an early bus. A midday break means waiting at a stop both ways. And at park close, you’ll queue with everyone else heading back.
Who should stay at Terra Luna
- Price-sensitive visitors for whom the $10–30 a night saving adds up over a long stay.
- Visitors who’ll spend most of their days at the original parks rather than Epic Universe. You’re on a bus either way, so the walking difference matters less.
- Families with toddlers who’ll value the zero-entry pool.
- Anyone who finds Stella Nova sold out.
If your trip is mostly about Epic Universe and the price gap is only $10–20 a night, Stella Nova is the better choice. The walk is worth more than the saving.
Stella Nova vs Terra Luna: the short version
| Stella Nova | Terra Luna | |
|---|---|---|
| Walk to Epic Universe | About 15 minutes on a path | 30+ minutes, unshaded, across a major intersection; take the bus |
| Rooms | 750; 315 sq ft; 2 queens; all park-facing | 750; 315 sq ft; 2 queens |
| Pool feature | Kids’ splash pad | Zero-entry pool |
| Café | Cosmos Cafe and Market | Omega Cafe and Market |
| Price | Usually $10–30 more per night | The cheapest of the three |
| Our pick for | Epic Universe-focused trips | Budget stays and original-park-focused trips |
What the difference really costs: a worked example
Nightly rates are easy to compare. What matters is how the gap adds up over a trip, and what it buys you. Here’s an illustration for a family of four staying three nights on summer dates, using the rough rates reported in September 2026. It’s an order-of-magnitude example, not a quote.
| Terra Luna | Stella Nova | Helios Grand | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Illustrative nightly rate | About $190–270 | About $200–300 | About $700–800 |
| Three nights, before taxes and fees | About $570–810 | About $600–900 | About $2,100–2,400 |
| Extra over Terra Luna | — | Roughly $30–90 | Roughly $1,500+ |
| What the extra buys | — | A 15-minute walk instead of a bus, twice a day or more | An in-park entrance, possible park views, and Express at the original parks if included |
Seen this way, the Stella Nova upgrade over Terra Luna is one of the best-value decisions in Orlando: a few tens of dollars over a whole stay for a walk you’ll use every day. The Helios Grand premium is a different kind of decision. $1,500 or more over three nights is the price of extra park tickets or several Express Passes. It’s worth paying only if you’ll use the in-park location heavily, or if the Express benefit at the original parks would otherwise cost you a similar amount.
What staying at an Epic Universe hotel does and doesn’t include
It’s easy to assume an on-site hotel covers more than it does. Here’s the practical list.
| Included | Not included |
|---|---|
| Early Park Admission at Epic Universe | Park tickets: you still need Epic Universe admission |
| Free transportation to the Universal parks and CityWalk | Express Pass at Stella Nova and Terra Luna, and at Epic Universe from any of the three |
| Resort charging privileges at Stella Nova and Terra Luna | Parking: check the nightly fee if you have a car |
| In-room pizza delivery at Stella Nova and Terra Luna | Transport to Walt Disney World, SeaWorld or the airport |
| Private in-park entrance (Helios Grand only) | Guaranteed park-view rooms unless you book that category |
The charging privileges are a small but useful perk: you can charge food and purchases in the parks to your room rather than carrying cards around all day. Check how it works at check-in.
Early Park Admission at Epic Universe
All three Epic Universe hotels include Early Park Admission to Epic Universe, which has been reported as one hour of early access covering Super Nintendo World and Celestial Park. Check the current terms for your dates, because which lands and attractions open early can change.
Used well, that hour is worth a lot. Super Nintendo World has some of the longest waits in the park, and an early start there can save you more queueing time than any other single decision of the day. Our Super Nintendo World guide and Epic Universe guide cover what to do first.
Express Pass: what’s included and what isn’t
This is where the most confusion lies, so to be clear:
- Stella Nova and Terra Luna don’t include Universal Express.
- Helios Grand has been reported to include Universal Express Unlimited at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, but not at Epic Universe. Confirm the details for your booking.
- Universal’s original Premier hotels, Hard Rock Hotel, Portofino Bay and Royal Pacific Resort, include Express Unlimited at the original two parks, and they’re a walk or water taxi from those parks.
If Express Pass is a big part of your plan, work out where you’ll use it. A Helios Grand stay makes most sense if you’re spending real time at the original parks as well as Epic Universe. If you want Express at Epic Universe itself, you’ll need to buy it separately. Our Universal Express Pass guide covers the options and prices.
Getting around from the Epic Universe hotels

Epic Universe is a separate site a few miles from Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and CityWalk. None of the Epic Universe hotels is within walking distance of the original parks, and the water taxis that serve Universal’s original hotels don’t reach them.
- To Epic Universe: Helios Grand guests walk in through their private entrance. Stella Nova guests walk about 15 minutes. Terra Luna guests take the bus.
- To Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and CityWalk: free Universal transportation from Stella Nova and Terra Luna, and Universal hotel transport from the Helios Grand. Allow extra time at peak morning and closing hours.
- To Walt Disney World, SeaWorld or the airport: you’ll need a car, a rideshare or a paid shuttle. See our Disney World to Universal transportation guide and Orlando airport transfers guide.
If you’re renting a car, check the current parking charges at each hotel before booking. Hotel parking at Universal is not free, and over a week it becomes a meaningful part of the cost. Our rental car guide helps you decide whether you need one at all.
An opening morning from each hotel
The difference between the three hotels is clearest on the morning you want to be at the gate for Early Park Admission. Here’s roughly how it plays out.
From Helios Grand
Breakfast in the hotel, a short walk through the lobby to the private entrance, and you’re in Celestial Park. There’s no transport to wait for and no need to leave early to allow for it. If your child needs to go back for a forgotten hat, that’s a few minutes, not half an hour.
From Stella Nova
Leave the lobby with plenty of time before Early Park Admission begins, walk the path for about 15 minutes, and join the queue at the main entrance. It’s straightforward, and you control the timing. On a hot morning, bring water for the walk. The return walk at the end of a long day is the part people feel.
From Terra Luna
Check the first bus time the night before, and plan to be at the stop early enough to allow for a full bus or a queue. On a busy morning, the bus rather than the walk decides when you reach the gate. If Early Park Admission at Super Nintendo World is a priority, this is where Terra Luna’s lower price costs you something real.
Epic Universe hotels vs Universal’s original hotels
The three new hotels are only the right choice if Epic Universe is a big part of your trip. Here’s how they compare with the older on-site options:
| If your trip is… | Consider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Mostly Epic Universe, on a budget | Stella Nova | Walk to the park, lowest-cost walkable option |
| Mostly Epic Universe, money no object | Helios Grand | Private in-park entrance and park views |
| Split between Epic and the original parks, with Express wanted | Helios Grand, or a Premier hotel near the original parks | Compare which Express benefit you’d actually use |
| Mostly the original parks | A Premier, Preferred or Prime Value hotel near CityWalk | Walk or water taxi to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure |
| Cheapest possible on-site stay | Terra Luna, or Universal’s older value hotels | Compare rates for your dates; transport is by bus either way |
For many visitors doing a typical three- or four-day Universal trip, with one day at Epic Universe and two or three at the original parks, a hotel near CityWalk is still the more practical base. The Epic Universe hotels come into their own on trips with two or more Epic days, or where Epic is the main reason for visiting. Our guides to hotels near Universal Studios and staying on-site versus off-site cover the alternatives.
Choosing: four common trips
A family of four, two days at Epic Universe, one at the original parks
Stella Nova. You’ll use the walking path twice a day, the kids get a splash pad, and the savings over Helios Grand pay for a lot of Butterbeer. For the original-parks day, take the free transport.
A couple celebrating, one Epic Universe day and two at the original parks
Helios Grand, if the Express benefit at the original parks is confirmed for your dates and you book a park-view room. The Express Pass does a lot of work on your two original-park days, and the location makes the Epic day special. If Express isn’t included, look at a Premier hotel near CityWalk instead.
A family with a toddler, mostly Epic Universe
Helios Grand if the budget stretches; otherwise Stella Nova. Midday naps are much easier from an in-park hotel. If you’re choosing Terra Luna for price, the zero-entry pool is a plus, but the bus makes midday breaks harder.
Budget-first, spending most days at the original parks
Terra Luna, or a value hotel near CityWalk. Compare the rates. If you’re on buses anyway, Terra Luna’s walking problem matters less, and it’s often the cheapest on-site room at Universal.
What reviewers mention that the brochures don’t
- The Prime Value rooms are compact. At 315 square feet, a family of four with suitcases and a stroller will feel it. They’re designed for people who are out all day.
- The walk from Stella Nova is fine, but it’s outdoors. Morning and evening are pleasant. A 2pm walk in August is not, so time your midday breaks.
- Terra Luna’s walk isn’t really an option. Reviewers are consistent on this: plan on the bus.
- Buses fill up at park close. Everyone leaves at once. From Terra Luna, and from any of the three hotels to the original parks, allow for a wait.
- Helios Grand’s location outshines its interiors. Several reviews praise the access and the views but feel the finishes and theming don’t match the price.
- The pizza delivery is a genuine lifesaver. After a 12-hour park day, few families want to go back out for dinner.
- The pools are good, not spectacular. They’re large and well kept, but they aren’t a destination in themselves in the way some Orlando resort pools are. See our guide to Orlando hotels with water parks if the pool matters most.

Booking tips
- Ask for a park-view room at Helios Grand and confirm the room category. Only about half the rooms overlook the park, and that view is a big part of what you’re paying for.
- At Stella Nova, ask for a room facing the park directly rather than one of the north-facing rooms with a distant view.
- Price-check Stella Nova and Terra Luna together. If the gap on your dates is small, Stella Nova’s walk is worth it. If it’s large, Terra Luna is a genuine saving.
- Confirm benefits in writing, especially Express Pass and Early Park Admission, for your specific dates.
- Look at packages. Universal sometimes bundles Epic Universe tickets with hotel stays, which can beat booking separately. See our Universal ticket prices guide.
- Check parking fees before you rent a car.
Is it worth staying at an Epic Universe hotel?
Stella Nova is the easy recommendation: a walkable, reasonably priced base with Early Park Admission, for anyone whose trip is built around Epic Universe.
Terra Luna is a good budget choice, but only once you’ve accepted that you’re a bus hotel. It’s no longer a walkable one.
Helios Grand is worth it for a specific kind of trip: young children or several Epic Universe days. Unlike Royal Pacific, Portofino Bay and Hard Rock Hotel, it doesn’t include free Express at the original parks (checked October 2026). For a single Epic day, it’s paying deluxe money mostly for a shorter walk, and many reviewers feel the rooms don’t live up to the rate.
For families, the walk matters more than the room. Stella Nova’s 15-minute path to the main entrance makes a midday pool-and-nap break realistic, which is how a lot of parents survive a full day at Epic with small children, while Terra Luna’s bus adds enough time to make that break harder to justify. Our Epic Universe with kids guide has a full family game plan, including how to spend Early Park Admission with a 40-inch child.
FAQ: Epic Universe hotels
Which hotels are at Epic Universe?
Three: Universal Helios Grand Hotel (a Loews hotel inside the park), Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort (both Prime Value hotels across the road).
Can you walk to Epic Universe from Stella Nova?
Yes. There’s a walking path, about 15 minutes from the lobby to the main entrance.
Can you walk to Epic Universe from Terra Luna?
Technically, but it isn’t practical. The route crosses a major intersection with no shade and can take 30 minutes or more, and reviewers recommend the bus.
Does Helios Grand include Express Pass?
Not as of October 2026. Universal’s Helios Grand page lists a dedicated Epic Universe entrance, Early Park Admission and transportation, but no Universal Express Unlimited, and Express Unlimited isn’t valid at Epic Universe at all. Confirm the benefits for your dates when booking.
Do Epic Universe hotels get early entry?
Yes. All three include Early Park Admission at Epic Universe, reported as one hour of access to Super Nintendo World and Celestial Park.
How much do Epic Universe hotels cost?
Prices vary widely by date. As a guide, checked in September 2026: Stella Nova from about $150–160 on quiet dates and roughly $200–300 on summer nights, Terra Luna usually $10–30 less, and Helios Grand reported around $700–800 on summer nights.
Are the Epic Universe hotels close to Universal Studios Florida?
No. Epic Universe is a separate site a few miles away. The hotels provide transportation to the original parks and CityWalk, but you can’t walk there.
What is the room size at Stella Nova and Terra Luna?
All 750 rooms at each hotel are 315 square feet with two queen beds.
Which Epic Universe hotel is best for families?
Stella Nova for most families: a walkable route to the park, a kids’ splash pad and a sensible price. Helios Grand is better for families with toddlers who need midday naps and can absorb the cost. Terra Luna’s zero-entry pool suits very young children, but the bus makes park breaks harder.
Is Terra Luna worth it over Stella Nova?
Only if the price gap on your dates is meaningful, or you’ll spend most of your days at the original parks. The rooms are the same size, and Stella Nova’s 15-minute walk to Epic Universe is usually worth the $10–30 a night difference.
Which Epic Universe hotel has the best view of the park?
Helios Grand, from its park-view rooms and the rooftop Bar Helios. Stella Nova’s rooms all face the park, but from across the road, and the north-facing rooms have a distant view.
