Walk into Tomorrowland at half past eleven on an ordinary Magic Kingdom night and you will find cast members sweeping up, the shops pulling down their shutters and the last stragglers drifting towards the exit. Walk in at the same hour on a Disney After Hours night and the picture is completely different: the lights are on, the queues are short, there is free ice cream at a cart nearby, and the crowd is a small fraction of what squeezed through the same space at lunchtime. That contrast is exactly what Disney is selling, and it is not cheap.
This guide compares the main separately ticketed extras that add park time at Walt Disney World: Disney After Hours at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, the holiday-season Jollywood Nights and Christmas Party, what became of Early Morning Magic, and the free Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Hours they compete with. It works through the cost per ride against an ordinary day with Lightning Lane, and it says plainly when the answer is “skip it”. Dates and prices were checked in October 2026 against Disney’s own event pages. Disney adjusts both, so treat the figures as the right order of magnitude and confirm before you buy.
Disney After Hours in 2027: dates, hours and prices
Disney’s event pages now list the 2027 After Hours season for all three parks that run it. The pattern is easy to read once it is laid out: Magic Kingdom is the late one and the expensive one, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios start half an hour earlier and give passholders a real discount.

The full 2027 calendars, as Disney published them in October 2026:
- Magic Kingdom: 11 and 18 January; 1, 8, 15 and 22 February; 4, 8 and 15 March; 5, 12 and 26 April; 17 and 24 May; 14, 21 and 28 June; 15 and 19 July. Almost all of them are Monday nights.
- EPCOT: 21 January; 18 February; 1, 15 and 22 April; 6 and 13 May; 3 and 12 June; 8, 22 and 29 July; 7, 12 and 19 August. Mostly Thursdays.
- Hollywood Studios: 16 and 27 January; 13 and 24 February; 13, 17 and 24 March; 7, 24 and 28 April; 19 and 26 May; 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 June; 5, 12 and 26 July; 4 and 25 August. Mostly Wednesdays and Saturdays, with a run of weekly Wednesday dates in June and three Monday nights in July.
Animal Kingdom does not appear on Disney’s After Hours page. If a blog post promises you a night-time safari on a hard ticket, check Disney’s own events page before you believe it.
What an After Hours ticket actually buys
The product is simple once the marketing is stripped away. You pay for three hours inside a park after it has closed to everyone else, with attendance limited so that the rides that stay open have short queues. The ticket is a standalone admission for that evening: it lets you in from 7pm without a separate park ticket, so you get a few hours of the regular evening, then stay on when the day guests are ushered out. If you want to arrive earlier than 7pm, you need an ordinary ticket for that day.
Inside the event, the snacks are part of the price. Disney lists novelty ice cream, popcorn and select bottled drinks as included, and on a hot summer night that is not a trivial perk. It is not dinner, though. Eat properly before the event starts, or you will spend the most valuable hour of the night queueing at a counter.
Three caveats from Disney’s own terms are worth reading before you pay. Tickets are limited and can sell out, so a date that looks open in March may be gone by May. Admission does not guarantee any particular ride, because attractions can close for weather or technical problems like they do on any day. And everything about the event, from the ride list to the hours, is subject to change. Bring realistic expectations: this is a short, quiet evening, not a guarantee of every headliner.
Magic Kingdom After Hours: the TRON and Mine Train night

Magic Kingdom’s version runs latest, from 10pm to 1am, and costs the most: $189 to $209 before tax for 2027, with no passholder discount listed. It is also the easiest of the three to justify, because Magic Kingdom’s daytime queues for its headliners are long and hard to fit into a normal day.
Disney’s event page names TRON Lightcycle / Run, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Space Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Haunted Mansion, “it’s a small world”, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid and Mad Tea Party among the experiences. Read that list with Magic Kingdom’s daytime waits in mind. TRON, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Peter Pan’s Flight are the three that eat a normal day alive, and on an After Hours night they are the reason to buy.
The 7pm entry matters here too. Disney’s page mentions Happily Ever After from 7pm, weather permitting, which means you can watch the fireworks from inside the park as part of the evening before the event proper starts. Check the show time for your date in the app, because the 7pm wording refers to your entry rather than a fixed show time.
A sensible Magic Kingdom plan
- 7pm to 9:30pm: enter, eat a proper dinner, and use the regular evening for anything you are happy to queue a little for, or the fireworks.
- 10pm: be standing near TRON or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train as the day crowd leaves. Those first minutes are when the gap between the event and a normal day is widest.
- 10:30pm to midnight: loop the other headliners: Space Mountain, Big Thunder, Peter Pan’s Flight, then back to whichever coaster had the shortest line.
- After midnight: the re-rides. Haunted Mansion at half past midnight, with almost nobody in the stretching room, is a different ride.
One family warning: TRON has a 48-inch (122 cm) height requirement, so a younger child may spend the night’s best ride in Rider Switch while the adults take turns. Check our Magic Kingdom guide for the rest of the park’s height limits before you buy tickets for a family of mixed heights.
EPCOT After Hours: Cosmic Rewind on repeat

EPCOT’s After Hours is the cheapest of the three at the top end: $159 to $189 before tax for 2027, and passholders and Disney Vacation Club members take $30 off. It runs 9:30pm to 12:30am, with entry from 7pm, on 15 nights between January and August 2027.
The rides Disney names are Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Test Track and Frozen Ever After. That is a short list, and the honesty test for this event is whether those four are what you want. Cosmic Rewind is one of the most demanded rides at Walt Disney World and the reason most people buy. Remy and Frozen Ever After both build big daytime queues in World Showcase. Test Track is a solid fourth. If you can ride all four several times in three hours, the evening earns its price for a fan of those rides. If you were hoping to wander World Showcase eating and drinking, a normal EPCOT evening does that better and costs nothing extra.
Several of the 2027 EPCOT dates fall in the spring and summer, when the park is busy and Cosmic Rewind standby waits tend to be long. Those are the nights where the event saves the most queueing. A January or February date, when the park is quieter anyway, saves less.
Hollywood Studios After Hours: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land at night

Hollywood Studios has the longest 2027 calendar, 22 nights from January to August, at $159 to $199 before tax with the same $30 discount for passholders and DVC members. The event runs 9:30pm to 12:30am, again with entry from 7pm. Disney’s listing shows one exception: 24 April, which it lists as running 10:30pm to 1:30am.
Disney’s page names Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway as part of the evening. It names lands rather than listing every ride inside them, so check the event page and the app on the night for exactly which Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land rides are running before you plan your route around one.

Hollywood Studios is the park where the after-dark atmosphere does the most work. Galaxy’s Edge at night, lit and nearly empty, is the land at its most convincing, and Tower of Terror after dark is the ride as it was meant to feel. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, the reworked coaster that reopened in May 2026, is not among the attractions Disney names on the event page, so do not buy a ticket on the assumption it will run.
Cost per ride: After Hours against a Lightning Lane day
This is the comparison that decides it. The meta-question is not “is After Hours expensive?” (it is) but “is it a cheaper way to ride the headliners than the alternatives?”
The After Hours side of the sum
Take the Magic Kingdom event at $199 before tax, the middle of its 2027 range. In three hours with short queues, a focused adult who sticks to the big rides might manage somewhere around eight to twelve of them, depending on how many re-rides they take and how fast the night’s queues move. Divide $199 by ten rides and you are paying about $20 a ride, plus the evening before the event and the free ice cream. Stretch to twelve and it drops towards $17. Spend half the night eating and wandering and it climbs past $30.
That arithmetic only works if you actually ride. The guests who get poor value from After Hours are the ones who treat it like a normal evening, linger over a snack and get round to TRON at 12:30am.
The Lightning Lane side
Lightning Lane Multi Pass is sold per day, per park, Single Pass per attraction, and Disney prices them by date and demand. Check the figure for your date in the My Disney Experience app or on Disney’s site, because it moves. Disney resort guests can buy 7 days before check-in for the whole stay. Other guests can buy 3 days before their park visit. Our Lightning Lane guide covers how the tiers work and which rides sit in which.
The fair comparison is with what Lightning Lane gets you on top of a ticket you already have. On a day you are in the park anyway, a Multi Pass adds a handful of shorter waits across the whole day for a fraction of the After Hours price. What it cannot do is give you three or four rides on TRON or Cosmic Rewind in a row: those two are sold as Single Pass, one Lightning Lane ride per day each. If repeat rides on one or two headliners are what you want, After Hours wins easily. If you just want to get round the park comfortably once, Lightning Lane on a normal day costs far less.
And against a whole day ticket
Disney’s one-day theme park tickets started from $119 before tax when checked in October 2026, rising steeply on busy dates. An After Hours ticket at $159 to $209 costs more than many single-day tickets for a fraction of the hours. That is the headline every sceptic reaches for, and it is true. It is also not quite the right comparison, because the After Hours ticket covers an evening on which you might otherwise be at your hotel, and because what you are buying is a different experience: short lines at the end of the night rather than a full day of crowds.
| Option | What it costs (before tax, checked October 2026) | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Magic Kingdom After Hours | $189 to $209 | Entry from 7pm, event 10pm to 1am, included snacks | Re-riding TRON, Mine Train and Peter Pan |
| EPCOT After Hours | $159 to $189 ($30 off for passholders and DVC) | Entry from 7pm, event 9:30pm to 12:30am, included snacks | Cosmic Rewind fans |
| Hollywood Studios After Hours | $159 to $199 ($30 off for passholders and DVC) | Entry from 7pm, event 9:30pm to 12:30am, included snacks | Galaxy’s Edge and Tower of Terror after dark |
| Jollywood Nights | $169 to $199 | Holiday party at Hollywood Studios, 7:30pm to 12:30am, PhotoPass downloads included | Holiday entertainment, not rides |
| Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party | $189 to $229 | Magic Kingdom from 4pm, party 7pm to midnight | Christmas shows, parade and characters |
| One-day theme park ticket | From $119 | A full day in one park | Almost everyone, first |
| Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass | Priced by date in the app | Shorter waits on top of a day ticket | Getting round once without long queues |
What happened to Early Morning Magic?
Early Morning Magic was the morning mirror image of After Hours: a paid ticket to enter before opening and ride a set of attractions with very few people around. It is not among the events Disney lists on its events and tours page as of October 2026, so there is nothing to book. If you find a guide still quoting a price for it, that guide is out of date.
For guests staying at a Disney resort hotel, the closest thing now is free. Early Theme Park Entry lets resort guests into every park 30 minutes before regular opening, every day of their stay, and Disney says it continues through 2027. It is not exclusive in the way a paid morning event was, because every resort guest can use it, but half an hour on the right ride at Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios is worth a lot. Our rope drop guide covers how to use that half-hour and the standard opening that follows it.
The free alternatives you may already have
Before paying for After Hours, check what your hotel already gives you. Both of Disney’s resort perks overlap with the paid events.
Extended Evening Hours
Extended Evening Hours keep one park open late, on select nights, for guests of Disney’s Deluxe Resorts and Deluxe Villa Resorts plus a few other hotels, with Disney listing the Swan and Swan Reserve among them. Disney says the perk continues through 2027. It is free, it is in the evening, and on a good night it delivers short queues on the headliners too.
The difference is crowding and certainty. Extended Evening Hours are open to every eligible guest staying on property that night, so the park is noticeably busier than during an After Hours event with capped attendance, and the dates and parks rotate. Moderate and Value resort guests do not qualify. If you are staying at a Deluxe resort, check the Extended Evening calendar for your dates before you buy After Hours. There is a fair chance a free late night at the same park is on offer during your stay.
Early Theme Park Entry
Covered above: 30 minutes, every park, every day, for Disney resort guests. On a quiet morning that half-hour can be worth two or three headliners, which is roughly what a family would hope to gain from a paid morning event.
Disney resort guests have one more advantage worth knowing about. Disney lists early access to buy tickets for special events among its resort hotel benefits, and given that After Hours nights sell out, a few days’ head start can be the difference between getting the date you want and not getting one at all.
The holiday-season alternatives
If your trip falls between November and early January, After Hours is not running, but two other hard-ticket evenings are. They are a different product: entertainment-led parties rather than short-queue ride nights.
Disney Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios
Jollywood Nights runs on 15 nights in the 2026 season: 7, 14, 16, 21, 23 and 28 November; 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21 and 23 December; and 3 and 5 January 2027. The event is 7:30pm to 12:30am, with entry from 5:30pm. Tickets cost $169 to $199 before tax, children aged 3 to 9 pay $10 less, and passholders and DVC members save $10 on every night. Disney lists more than 20 character experiences, and the ticket includes PhotoPass downloads of the night’s event photos and videos.
Here is the detail that changes the value sum: unlike After Hours, the sweets, snacks and drinks at Jollywood Nights are for purchase, not included. Budget for them. It is a party for people who love Disney’s holiday entertainment and characters, not a ride marathon.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom
The 2026 Christmas Party runs on 25 select nights from 8 November to 22 December, 7pm to midnight, with entry to Magic Kingdom from 4pm. Prices run $189 to $229 before tax, children aged 3 to 9 pay $10 less, and passholders and DVC members save $10 on nights from 8 to 20 November and 29 November to 3 December. Our Very Merry Christmas Party guide covers the parade, shows and snow on Main Street in detail.
The Halloween equivalent, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, finishes its 2026 season on 31 October, and Disney’s page shows every 2026 date as sold out. To plan for the 2027 party, check Disney’s event page. Our Not-So-Scary guide has the details of how the night works.
Disney’s water park evening, Disney H2O Glow After Hours at Typhoon Lagoon, showed no dates scheduled on Disney’s page in October 2026, and its 2026 nights have ended. Check that page if a summer water park night appeals.
Disney After Hours: worth it, or not?
After Hours is a narrow product, and it is excellent for the people it suits and poor value for almost everyone else. Here is how to tell which you are.
Worth it if
- You want repeat rides on one or two headliners. Three goes on TRON or Cosmic Rewind in an evening is close to impossible any other way.
- You are short of park days. An After Hours evening on an arrival or departure day effectively adds a half-day of rides without buying another full ticket.
- Your trip falls on busy dates. Spring break and summer nights are when the gap between After Hours queues and normal queues is largest.
- Everyone in the group can ride the big rides and stay up until 1am without falling apart.
- You are a passholder or DVC member at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios. The $30 discount makes those two noticeably better value than Magic Kingdom.
Skip it if
- You have small children. A 7pm start and a 12:30am or 1am finish is a hard night for little ones, and several of the rides that make the ticket worth it have height limits.
- You are staying at a Deluxe resort and Extended Evening Hours fall at the same park during your trip.
- You visit in a quiet week. In early January or late August, ordinary evening queues can be short enough that the premium buys you much less.
- What you love is atmosphere, shows and food rather than rides. The event’s value is in queue time, and that is all.
- The money would buy an extra park day instead. If the choice is one more full day or one After Hours evening, the full day is the better trip for most families.
Our view: for an adult or teenager who loves the big rides and is visiting at a busy time, the EPCOT or Hollywood Studios event with a passholder discount, or the Magic Kingdom event on a spring break date, is one of the few Disney add-ons that delivers what it promises. For a family with young children on a normal trip, it is an expensive late night they will not need.
How to get the most from the night
- Eat before 9pm. The included snacks are snacks. A proper meal during the event costs ride time.
- Know your first ride before you arrive. Be near it as the event starts, while the day crowd is still leaving.
- Check the app’s wait times through the night. Queues drift; the ride with a ten-minute wait at 10:30pm may be a walk-on by midnight.
- Save the slow rides for the end. Dark rides and gentle attractions are the best use of the last half-hour, when the coasters may already be winding down.
- Plan the journey home. A 1am finish is a long way from the busy daytime transport you are used to, so ask at your resort how buses run after the event, or plan for a taxi or rideshare if you are staying off property.
- Do not plan an early start the next morning. After a 1am finish, the following day works best as a pool day or a late park start.
If you are building a whole-trip plan around an After Hours night, our Disney World touring plan shows how to fit a late evening into the rest of the week, and the Disney World planning guide sets out when to buy each piece.
FAQ: Disney After Hours and ticketed extras
Do I need a park ticket for Disney After Hours?
Not for the evening itself. The After Hours ticket admits you from 7pm on the night of the event. You only need a separate park ticket if you want to enter the park earlier in the day.
How much is Disney After Hours in 2027?
Disney lists Magic Kingdom at $189 to $209, EPCOT at $159 to $189 and Hollywood Studios at $159 to $199, all before tax and varying by date. EPCOT and Hollywood Studios give passholders and DVC members $30 off; Magic Kingdom lists no discount.
Is food included at Disney After Hours?
Snacks are. Disney lists novelty ice cream, popcorn and select bottled drinks as included. Meals are not, so eat before the event starts.
Does Animal Kingdom have an After Hours event?
No. Disney’s After Hours page covers Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios only.
Is Early Morning Magic still running?
It is not on Disney’s list of events as of October 2026, so there is nothing to book. Disney resort guests get free Early Theme Park Entry, 30 minutes before opening at every park, which covers much of the same ground.
Is Disney After Hours worth it compared with Lightning Lane?
For repeat rides on the top headliners, yes, because Lightning Lane cannot give you several rides on the same headliner in one day. For getting round a park once with shorter waits, a normal day with Lightning Lane costs much less.
Can kids go to Disney After Hours?
Yes, but think hard about it. The event ends at 12:30am or 1am, and several of the rides that justify the ticket have height requirements. Families with young children usually get more from the Christmas Party or a normal evening.
